Scary Humpty Dumpty

Something about a lot of the character illustrations from 19th and early 20th century children’s books has always creeped me out. I guess people had a different idea of  “cuteness” way back when. Take Humpty-Dumpty below as a case in point. I wouldn’t have found him “cute” or “funny” or “appealing” when I was a kid, and I don’t find him so, now. To me, he looks scary. Malevolent. The stuff that nightmares are made of.

I added my own caption to this image to further illustrate the point.

Honey, I shrunk your sweater

And you went ahead and wore it to work.

Or I have just been out of the fashion loop for too long?

Fugly bodybuilder dudes

The first pic I call “Melanoma with Muscles.” And his face is just deeply disturbing. The second one makes me think of the Family Guy episode where the doctor tells Popeye that his preternaturally large forearms are advanced tumors, rather than muscles: “My God – did you think arms are supposed to look like this?”

“Meat Head” or “To my God I reveal my inner self.”

Via emergencyfan2000’s photostream

Note label on the table: “Donner Family Picnic.”

I considered doing a Photoslop with a bipedal wild boar carrying this tray, in parody of the ancient Yuletide tradition. Upon reflection, it seemed like too much work, but had I done it, I would have called it, simply, “Bringing in the Man’s Head.”

Thumb Hates Hippies

HippiesUseSideDoorFor some reason I have this idea in the back of my head that Thumb hates hippies, like I heard it somewhere.  If I’m wrong about that, just poke me in the eye with a sharp stick.

In any case, here’s an awesome hippy montage set to that “timeless classic,”  Don’t Bogart that Joint My Friend, sung by Country Joe and the Fish, who were dirty hippies themselves.

Click on the happy hippies.
