My kids won’t play guitar hero.

Should I buy my kid a video game where he/she can learn how to play air guitar, or buy my kid a guitar? It’s a difficult decision. I’ll buy my kid a flight simulator game if they want one because I can’t buy them a plane and they can’t learn how to fly one on their own. I just don’t understand why anyone would buy a game to simulate something easily obtainable. Cause it’s fun, maybe? I think playing guitar is fun, and learning guitar is fun…so I guess that’s why I don’t get it. Vids sent to me from TriggerFingerBang!

Funny thing is, I always thought that Japan was way ahead of the U.S. in terms of video games and simulators. I did find a good amount of American kids on guitar, but not in the volume of which I found those little Japanese kids playing.

Bike Hero is great! There are some other Hero games that need to be invented…
Brownie Hero: You make brownies on your tv and don’t get to eat them like if you made them in your kitchen.
Hooker Hero: You actually find a hooker and bring her home, play a sex simulator game and pay her for playing instead of actually doing what she thought she was coming over for.
Internet Hero: You simulate surfing the net on a computer that is actually connected to the internet…you just don’t use it cause that would defeat the purpose of the game.

What a concept. Once you master playing along with Nirvana’s Smell’s Like Teen Spirit, you’re holding a real guitar and know how to actually play Nirvana’s Smell’s Like Teen Spirit. Nonsense!

I don’t understand guitar hero either. I got bored with it after an hour because I got tired of hearing the songs over and over. Besides, I have two guitars sitting in the closet I don’t have time to play anymore so why play the fake one?

Guitar Hero makes ZERO sense to me.
I too own a guitar and two basses, so why would I want to fake playing guitar? It seems like a waste of time. I’d feel terribly guilty mastering a toy when I could be mastering the real thing.
Also, goddamn, that girl’s crazy talented. Somehow, though, I’m not at all surprised it’s a Japanese kid. In a culture that puts emphasis on math and perfection, she’s a natural result. In that second video, when she’s playing Crazy Train, that Flying V is BIGGER THAN HER!!!

that kid playin crazy train? yah, second what digit said. that was quite possibly the most amazing and cutest thing i have seen in awhile.

All of those kids are amazing, big props to the first kid ripping up the the Joe Satriani. GH is fun but ultimately makes me feel like a dumbass for not being able to play the guitar that well.

(psst, Anonymousknuckle, it’s all the same kid)

You would have to be a huge guitar geek to post that.
oh wait a minute….

to clarify, the 1st video is a girl, the 2nd a boy, and the 3rd a girl.
I am almost certain the two girls are not the same person. As for young Yuto, apparently he has played on stage with Galactic and Les Paul and is considered to be the world’s youngest professional guitarist. He has also played with GE Smith and with the Max Weinberg 7 when he appeared on Conan O’Brien.
Mighty impressive for just an 8 year old. I wonder what McRorie would think of these accomplishments????
November 24th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Crap. Did I just get tacitly accused of “They all look the same to me”-ism?
November 25th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Everyone looks the same on a crappy youtube vid. Except McRorie. The mullet always shines through like a beam of hope to the world.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:57 am
A beam of AWESOME hope!!
November 25th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Ouch Digit.

Why don’t you join your son into a course of learning guitar of his own choice. I hope this can help your son to learn well as you have given a choice of his own interest.

I went to McRorie’s web site at mcrorie.net and I did not see a mullet in his promo video or in any of his videos on his video page.?
December 25th, 2008 at 9:23 am
That is because he does not have a mullet.
December 25th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Welcome back, McRorie!!
You may not have an actual mullet (I’m not going to bother to check), but you do have a spiritual mullet.
December 26th, 2008 at 1:08 am
Welcome back McRorie? I don’t understand, sorry. No I do not have a mullet and I am not McRorie! I just happened to have seen him, yet I never saw a mullet.

Guitar hero only helps kids who already are musically inclined anyways so why not just play the real thing? The average kid just looks at the buttons and is not listening to the music anyway. The talented child can play without even looking at the screen, so if they have the talent they may as well be playing the real thing.
December 26th, 2008 at 1:34 am
Just one question. Why do you insist on putting others who have talent down, including little children? You may not understand that guitar hero is for children!! It may not be a guitar. It does not have to be. It does teach a child that music is fun. It makes children ENJOY music. What is wrong with that??? You already own a guitar and play. Guitar Hero encourages children to want to play the guitar. I am sure you are an expert at guitar, however, I am sure a child would rather be taught by Guitar Hero than by someone as perfect and boring as you!

Goddamnit, McRorie.
December 26th, 2008 at 9:07 am
I am serious when I tell you that I am NOT MCRORIE!! I already told you that. I am sorry that you think otherwise! Wow! Mellow out dude! Sorry that I hurt your feelings! It’s just that everytime you write something you are putting someone down! Never a good thing to say about anyone, only yourself. I understand that you need to bring yourself up. I think you need to grow up. Just for your information, I really am being honest when I say that I am not McRorie. Sorry that you are so sensitive ! Wow.!!!
December 26th, 2008 at 10:56 am
Methonks thou doth deniest too strongly.
Plus, your IP address matches McRorie’s, so if you ain’t him, you live with the dude, which is maybe worse.
December 26th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Sorry! You obviously think I am him. I never intended to make you think that and so this is my last attempt to tell you that. (please, check my IP?)
December 26th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
If you can tell me where it is, then I can PROVE that I am not him.
